On the morning of this Thursday, May 23, the director of the National Police, General William René Salamanca revealed exclusively to EL TIEMPO, details of his meeting with Anner Milgram, the director of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, DEAworldwide, who was in Colombia on an official visit this week.

​The meeting with Milgram took place under the greatest secrecy in General Salamanca’s office, on Monday, May 20, before the director of the Police traveled to Cauca; In fact, the officer highlighted the official’s words of encouragement for the death of patrolmen Jaime Andrés Calderón Reyes and Diego David López Domínguezin the midst of the dissidents’ attack on Morales in Cauca.

General Salamanca assured this newspaper that it was a very fruitful meeting because, among others, it was agreed that the Colombian Police “you will have real time access” to all the information that the DEA has in its 355 offices around the world.

Common front against invisible drug traffickers

The director of the National Police confirmed that It was agreed with the DEA that this United States intelligence group will collaborate with the capture of the so-called ‘invisible drug traffickers’‘, of which the Colombian uniformed officers have identified 170, of which they have already captured 37.

Therefore, the director of the Police told EL TIEMPO that a special team will be formed to confront this phenomenon, through the training and strengthening of cooperating agents for the development of high-impact investigations.

General William René Salamanca indicated to this newspaper that his message to Mrs. Milgram was one, that, “These overwhelming results against transnational organized crime are the best demonstration of how dynamic and fluid the close cooperation between the Colombian National Police and the DEA is.which will continue to be of vital importance to defeat one of the worst threats against humanity, such as illicit drug trafficking.”
