More than 11 thousand homes without electricity in the Metropolitan Region: Governor and municipalities prepare new collective lawsuit

The Governor of Santiago, mayors of different communes of the Metropolitan Region and the National Corporation of Consumers and Users (Conadecus) will announce this Thursday a new lawsuit against Enel Distribución and the Compañía General de Electricidad (CGE) for power outages during the storm.

This is the second lawsuit of this type due to the constant delays in the replacement of the electricity supply. Until this Wednesday night, the Superintendence of Electricity and Fuels (SEC) registered 11,338 customers with power outages in the Metropolitan Region.

The communes most affected by this situation -Ñuñoa, Colina, Melipilla, La Reina and Lo Barnechea- They are collecting signatures among their neighbors to promote this demand, an initiative to which The municipalities of Peñalolén, Maipú and Lampa, among others, would be added.

The mayor of Ñuñoa, Emilia Ríos, said that several neighbors have more than 48 hours without electricity. “As a municipality we are going to take all the legal actions we have available to support families in the face of this situation,” he announced.

Meanwhile, the communal head of Colina, Isabel Valenzuela, assured that “we have registered more than 1,800 people for this demand and we hope that more people will join. The idea is that with this demand the company takes measures so that such a prolonged outage does not occur again, also considering that there are many homes that are heated with electricity.”

For his part, the mayor of Lampa, Jonathan Opazo, said that “Enel’s delay in restoring the electricity supply is excessive and unacceptable and generates serious problems for our neighbors”for which a class action lawsuit is being considered.

With the rains of last May 6, a similar situation was recorded, when at the end of the emergency thousands of customers were still without electricity in the Metropolitan Region, which It motivated the first class action lawsuit and actions by Sernac and the SEC.
