Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CC-PCC-) and President of the Republic, today toured sites of economic interest in the mountainous municipality of Yateras, in the province of Guantánamo.

The Presidency reported in by Army General Raúl Castro, for raising chickens.

On the tour, Díaz-Canel learned that this group of 32 workers is looking for alternatives to increase the feeding of the birds and replace imported feed, which will allow the number of breeding birds to increase.

As explained to the head of state, currently the center allocates its egg production to pregnant and vulnerable women in the province.

The mountain has to produce its own food, said the President while reiterating the need to diversify productions without neglecting the purpose of this center, which is strategic for the area.

The president pointed out that there is a mentality accustomed to importing and called to break with that custom and plant crops to sustain the feeding of birds and increase production for which this place was conceived.

Yateras is located just over 30 kilometers from the provincial capital and has about 18 thousand inhabitants. The town is the fifth Guantanamo territory visited by Party authorities this year, after Maisi, Manuel Tames, El Salvador and Baracoa.
