With the presence of the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, the Undersecretary of Defense, Ricardo Montero, the Prefect General Consuelo Peña, Deputy Director of Intelligence, Organized Crime and Migration Security together with the highest authorities of the region, the IBIS system was inaugurated in the Criminalistics Laboratory Coverage Northern Zone Iquique (Lacrimnor) of the PDI Tarapacá.
The integrated ballistic identification system (IBIS) will allow maintaining a digital record of each weapon, and the precise identification of those that are involved in the commission of crimes.
Peña referred to this acquisition as a technological weapon in the fight against gun violence, adding that its search engine extends the capabilities of law enforcement agencies to quickly find links between firearm crimes.
“These ballistic identification systems are a fundamental tool for the criminal and forensic investigation of crimes committed with firearms and for the traceability of ammunition found at crime sites, since they allow this evidence to be associated with the weapons that fired them and their owners”, concluded Monsalve
