Between the University of San Pablo-T and the Faculty of Agronomy, Zootechnics and Veterinary Medicine of the UNT, a cooperation agreement was signed to work together to disseminate the cultivation of yacón (photo) among small agricultural producers in the province.

Within this framework, the Comprehensive Center for Applied Biotechnology (CIBA), which operates in the Technology Park of the University of San Pablo, will produce yacón seedlings and provide the physical space and materials. Meanwhile, UNT will provide human resources for the multiplication and distribution of the seedlings.

Yacón was consumed in pre-Hispanic times by the indigenous people, who called it llakum and consumed it as food. It is a tuber that looks similar to the sweet potato and has a cream or orange-yellow pulp.

The signing of the agreement was carried out by the vice-rector of San Pablo T, architect Matías Rohmer Litzmann, and the dean of FAZ, agricultural engineer Susana del Valle Montserrat. Also participating were the director of the Comprehensive Center for Applied Biotechnology (CIBA), Dr. Federico Pérez Zamora; the USPT professor, Marcela Colombo and the secretary of Management and Relations of the Faculty, Pedro Jorge Mario Vidal.

Research and teacher training

San Pablo-T created the Research and Teacher Training Center, which will be directed by Professor Carlos Fidel Nuno. It is intended for teachers of state, social, community and higher management at all levels and modalities of compulsory higher, technical and teaching education. The training is creditable and with a score designation according to the criteria of each jurisdiction. The proposals will include academic updating, diplomas, seminars and conferences.
