Paragliding flight from Artemisa

The community of Aspiro in San Cristóbal, with its particular geography, hosted the friendly paraglider meeting Raidel Cobas Fernández, who was an athlete of the Cuban Free Flight Federation and contributed significantly to the development of this sport in the country.

The event began with the presentation ceremony of the pilots from the provinces of Pinar del Río, Havana, Mayabeque, Matanzas, Villa Clara, Santiago de Cuba and the host Artemisa, and judges and referees also paraded.

The Directorate of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation in the territory welcomed them in an event where there were directors of the Camping Company in charge of housing the athletes, and members of the Cuban Free Flight Federation and the Technical Commission, headed by its president.

The rules of the competition were explained and there was a moment of tribute to Raidel Cobas, one year after his physical disappearance, before the group of pilots went out to test their skills on the area’s elevations.

Although the wind behavior was not the most favorable during the first day, the athletes took on the challenge of takeoff in Aspiro and the finish line in Santa Cruz, but there were several landing points, according to the study and characteristics of the conditions.

For three days the members of this club fraternized, both in the air and in the facilities of the Campismo Jardín de Aspiro in one of the pre-mountain areas of the Sierra del Rosario.
