With a new absence of Argentina, the Multinational Exercise Resolute Sentinel 2024 began in Peru

Taking as its framework the La Joya Air Base, A new edition of the Multinational Exercise began in Peru Resolute Sentinel 2024 powered by the United States Southern Command. In this new edition, a total of 1,500 members of the Armed Forces of Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Brazil, France and the United States meet to prepare for various scenarios where humanitarian assistance operations must be provided. For their part, as in the 2023 edition, the Argentine Armed Forces They say absent again in the activities that will last until June 14 in Peru.

The opening ceremony of Exercise Resolute Sentinel 2024 was centered on La Joya Air Base, located in Arequipa, Peru, with the presence of the Peruvian Minister of Defense Walter Astudillo Chávez. The portfolio holder stated that: “Resolute Sentinel 24 is an excellent opportunity to strengthen our ties of friendship, improve our interoperability and strengthen our capabilities to face the threats and challenges that may arise in an increasingly interconnected world.”. Adding: “It is convenient to remember that security is not an individual effort, but a collective commitment, and together we are stronger. May this exercise be a testimony of our unity, determination and ability to overcome any challenge“.

Registering its first edition in 2021, Resolute Sentinel is promoted and organized by the United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) in order to increase the degree of training and interoperability between armed forces of the region in cases of Humanitarian Assistance against various scenarios. In this new edition, the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces of Peru received the request to act as host and leader of the multinational activity.

Although originally focused on humanitarian assistance operations, Resolute Sentinel has been mutating in its scope and size, calling for more and more troops and means of military forces in the region to participate year after year. Based on what was reported on May 27 by USSOUTHCOM, the multinational exercise: “Provides joint training and enhances readiness for U.S. and allied nation military personnel through interoperability in combat and disaster response training, space domain awareness, medical and legal exchanges, training, humanitarian aid and projects of construction”.

This situation was evident last year where it was possible to see how the Peruvian Armed Forces were able to operate with various means and units of the United States Armed Forces. Among these, the presence of attack aircraft in the Peruvian skies for the first time in history stood out. A-10C Thunderbol II of the US Air Force Reserve Commandwhich carried out a series of training with the Su-25 Frogfoot of the Peruvian Air Force.

Another of these milestones was the participation of special operations helicopters MH-60M Black Hawk of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment of the North American Armyknown as “Nightslatkers”, which together with Peruvian troops carried out training such as insertion and extraction, evacuation of wounded, among others.

Like last year, the Argentine Armed Forces once again say they are absent in Exercise Resolute Sentinel, which will cover different scenarios in Lima, Arequipa, Loreto and Ucayali. Last year, among the reasons given by the ministerial authorities was the participation of troops from the United Kingdom, which, as official sources report, are not part of this edition.
