A serious case of gender violence was known in San Juan this Friday, with the conviction of Ariel Jesus Alvarez due to injuries mild aggravated for the bond and for gender violence, in addition to simple threats. According to judicial sources, the incident took place on April 17, 2024, around 7:00 a.m., at the residence that he shared with the victim in Capital.

The victim, who was in a relationship with Álvarez and has a child in common with him, reported that an argument between the two escalated quickly. In a fit of fury, Álvarez grabbed her shoulders, pushed her onto the bed and they struggled. Then, he grabbed her hair tightly and choked her with both hands, while she yelled at him: “I am going to kill you” . At that moment, Álvarez’s mother entered the room and tried to intervene, exclaiming: “Leave her, you are going to kill her, I don’t want you to kill her, you are going to kill that girl here” . However, his efforts to stop the attack were unsuccessful.

The assault continued with Álvarez biting the victim’s left leg and pinching her breasts. Despite his attempts to defend himself against him, the situation only calmed down when Álvarez suddenly asked for forgiveness.

In the abbreviated trial, it was decided to convict and sentence Ariel Jesus Alvarez to six months of conditional prison for the crimes of minor injuries aggravated by the relationship and gender violence, as well as for simple threats in real competition. The sentence includes the application of rules of the royal competition and participation as author, according to articles 89, 92, 80 first paragraph and 11, 149 bis first paragraph, first assumption, 55 and 45 of the Penal Code.

In addition, the conduct measures that were already imposed during the formalization hearing of the preparatory criminal investigation will be maintained for two years. Álvarez must establish residence and submit to the care of the Board of Trustees of the Prisoner, Released, Imprisoned and Probated, with communication to the Office of Alternative Measures (OMA) to ensure compliance with these measures.
