June 2 has become an election day marked by violence in Mexico, with two people dead and several injured in various incidents. The Mexican Editorial Organization (OEM) reported at least seven violent episodes until 2:30 p.m., in what is considered the largest election in the country’s history.

In Tlapanalá, Puebla, a 25-year-old woman lost her life in crossfire during an attempt to steal electoral ballots in box 2069, located at the Gabriela Mistral Primary School.

The armed group managed to steal the ballots and, during their escape, they clashed with the municipal police, resulting in the death of the young woman and several injuries. The State Attorney General’s Office and the National Guard took control of the situation.

In Querétaro, an individual tried to set ballot boxes on fire in the Bicentenario primary, but was discovered and fled after being hit by a truck. Local authorities assured that the situation did not represent a risk to citizens and that voting continued normally.

In Tijuana, Baja California, a man and a woman were injured by gunshots near box 0954. A witness reported that the attack seemed directed at a person with a nearby bodyguard. The booth continued operating despite the incident.

In Campeche, an internal conflict in the Secretariat of Citizen Protection and Security (SPSC) caused clashes between police officers.

Tensions arose due to disagreement over electoral surveillance and culminated in clashes at checkpoints in Kobén and Castamay. In the midst of the chaos, the vehicle of Rosa Verónica Ortiz Ek, Morena candidate, was stopped, who was carrying 150 thousand pesos in cash. Ortiz Ek stated that the money was for personal expenses.

In Coyomeapan, Puebla, an armed attack at a polling station left one injured and one dead. The incident, according to leaders of the Coyomeapan Unit, was caused by armed men seeking to intimidate voters, resulting in a shooting and the suspension of activities at the polling station.

Finally, in Cuitzeo, Michoacán, Israel Delgado Vega, candidate for trustee for the Let’s Keep Making History coalition, was murdered early Sunday morning. The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Michoacán has launched an investigation into the homicide.
