They will deliver properties to victims of Rosas – Proclama del Cauca

Finally, it seems that they will hand over land
to victims of Rosas, Cauca

On January 9, 2023, in the Chontaduro village of the municipality of Rosas, southern Cauca, a gigantic landslide destroyed a section of the Pan-American Highway and left 260 families in the area without land and survival resources.

However, 16 months later, in the middle of last April, the victims had to block a section of the recovered Pan-American highway, to demand the presence of the director of the National Risk Management Unit (UNGRD), Carlos Carrillogiven the lack of permanent relocation solutions and a series of non-compliance with what the National Government promised to those affected.

Part of the protesters’ dissatisfaction is that no progress has been made in the acquisition of the properties where those affected by the avalanche will be permanently relocated, to which is added that many depended on trade on the road, and have not been able to recover since it was presented the emergency.

Marco Antonio Rojas Carvajal, mayor of Rosas; Yesid Salamanca, advisor to the UNGRD office and Carlos Carrillo Arenas, director of the UNGRD.

Carlos Carrillo Arenas, general director of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, UNGRD, met with local authorities and communities this Saturday, June 1, in the urban area of the municipality of Rosas, southern Cauca, to announce the purchase of the first properties, Alejandría and Villa Aurora, located near Rosas, where 22 families will be relocated.

A team of technicians from the entity also evaluated the viability of five properties proposed by the communities. Four of them were approved for resettlement: Villa Olivo, Los Gutiérrez, Vatánicos and Santa Inés.

The UNGRD, likewise, promised to liquidate the agreement with the National Land Agency to directly acquire seven farms that will be destined for the victims: La Española, La María, Leiton, Santa Elena, Charco El Burro, Las Camelias and Los Naranjos.

The entity also caught up with the payment of rental subsidies for more than 180 families, a benefit that had been suspended for six months.

Another good news for Rosas has to do with the reactivation of six of the 10 community pots in the municipality. The inhabitants will enjoy this UNGRD program in the coming days.
