Universidad de Chile returns to victory, but Coquimbo does not lose pace

Santiago de Chile, June 2 (EFE).- Universidad de Chile beat Everton de Viña del Mar 1-2 at home this Sunday and retained the lead in the Chilean league, two points behind Coquimbo Kingdom, which won by 2 -0 to Universidad Católica and has a match pending that can elevate it in the Chilean league.

The laymen returned to victory after two dates thanks to a last goal from Lucas Assadi. They reached 32 points before the winter break and were awaiting the result of the pending match between the Pirates of Coquimbo and Palestino, this Thursday.

Everton fell for the second game in a row and is eighth with 21 points.

Blues coach Gustavo Álvarez highlighted the “great merit” of the team. “It is not easy to be first and maintain it fifteen days, I know that Coquimbo has one less game, and it seems to me that an analysis of what is coming is hasty,” he said.

For Álvarez, his focus is now on the second half: “The second halves are always more complicated, because things are defined, so with such important objectives at stake, the second half is always much more demanding than the first,” he said.

The threat of Coquimbo Kingdom was latent with its sixth consecutive victory with a key duel against the Crusaders, with whom it was equal on points before facing the fifteenth round.

Fernando Díaz’s team won again at home, where they have not lost in this campaign, and have confirmed themselves as a strong candidate in a tournament in which they took points from their main rivals: Universidad de Chile, Universidad Católica and Colo Colo.

The aurinegro team remained as the only runner-up of the secular team, while those from the fringe are third with 27 points followed by one point from Colo Colo, who unexpectedly fell at home 0-1 against the bottom team Copiapó, which has now climbed to 13th place .

Palestino won 1-2 on Saturday on their visit to Audax Italiano and rose to fifth place with 24 points. And it was above Unión Española (6th), which defeated Deportes Iquique (7th) 4-3, although the three have the same number of points.

The day began on Friday with the 0-4 win that O’Higgins (9th) gave at home to Cobreloa (15th) and thus returned them to the relegation zone, where Unión La Calera occupies the last place by accumulating another defeat 2-1 against Cobresal (12th), while the clash between Ñublense (10th) and Huachipato (11th) on June 10 was pending.
