Managers and workers of the territory, together with the Cuban Railway Union (UFC), managed to acquire inputs (in minimum quantities) and worked intensely until, on May 15, they were able to carry out the first tests with a low load in the mill, obtaining results. encouraging.

On May 17, after 249 days of inactivity, the quarry began its production cycle, reaching a total of 600 tons of stone, according to Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, Minister of Transportation, on his Facebook account.

To maintain proper functioning, Luis Rosés Hernández, general director of the UFC, visited the quarry again “because if it was difficult for the quarry to start again, the more complex it will be to maintain its operation,” highlighted Rodríguez Dávila, who also assured that There is material left to continue grinding for a few days. After that period it will be necessary to extract more stones and repeat the cycle, which is guaranteed.

Regarding the immediate needs, he expressed that there were not many. Among them, he pointed out the paint required by the equipment, which has been in operation for several years and needs maintenance; He also reported on tire management.

Another of the effects that the minister highlighted was the energy deficit that the country faces, although the quarry’s production schedules are being organized based on electricity availability.
