Health asks parents to manage influenza vaccination in schools

La Paz, June 3, 2024 (ABI). – The second phase of vaccination against influenza incorporates children between 2 and 12 years of age, most of them at school, so parents must coordinate the presence of immunization brigades in the different educational units, reported the Vice Minister of Promotion, Epidemiological Surveillance, Max Enríquez.

“We want to make a recommendation and call to family peers so that, taking into account that these minors are of school age, they should contact their educational units to coordinate the (vaccination) activity,” he explained.

Health personnel require the request of parents to organize immunization in the 3,600 educational units in Bolivia. Coordination must be carried out through the Health and Biosafety Commission.

The coldest season of the year has not yet begun, so it is necessary to protect children against influenza.

“It is the right time to start vaccination, because the vaccine is not magic, it has an antibody generation process that will take between 7 and 14 days to start working; “It would be irresponsible for families and schools not to start immunization,” he warned.

To date, influenza vaccination has reached 480,048 doses applied in the nine departments, of which 106,199 correspond to pediatric doses and 373,849 to adults.

On May 1, immunization began for children under 2 years of age, health personnel, pregnant women, people over 60 years of age and chronically ill people.

All departments are endemic, however, that does not “mean that we let our guard down. “This disease is going to cause death if we are careless,” she warned.
