At the National Gastronomic Meeting of the Saborea España brand in Cullera, La Rioja has shown its commitment to sustainable and socially responsible food and wine tourism, reaffirming its identity and its gastronomic legacy. In the round table titled ‘Is social sustainability viable in gastronomic tourism?’, the general director of Tourism and Territorial Promotion, Virginia Borges, highlighted the firm commitment of the Government of La Rioja to food and wine tourism and its important component of responsibility. social.

Borges has highlighted the strategy of La Rioja, in which “Social responsibility plays a priority role and establishes necessary conversations with the primary sector, farmers or winemakers, always taking into account our customs and values, something that has been done in La Rioja for a long time”recalled the general director.

Food and wine tourism, according to Borges, is a “fundamental element of promotion, source of employment and sustainable economic development”. For this reason, the Government of La Rioja is promoting actions that strengthen the gastronomic values ​​of the region, combining the tradition of family restaurants with innovative proposals.

The round table was also attended by other relevant figures from the tourism sector, such as Blanca Jiménez, Councilor for Tourism, Events and Brand of Valladolid; María Velasco, cabinet advisor at the Secretary of State for Tourism; and Isabel García, from the Ribera del Guadiana Wine and Cava Route Association. Likewise, various representatives of the Rioja tourism sector attended, including Demetrio Domínguez, president of the Rioja Hotel Association; Paco Bergés, president of the Riojan hospitality industry of the FER; and Miguel Ángel Librada, secretary of the FER.

The Taste Spain meeting has been a platform to discuss current tourism issues. Among the conversations led by Turespaña, the importance of not forgetting the values ​​of the territory and generating strategies that always take into account the residents of each tourist enclave, fundamental for the present and future of the sector, was highlighted.
