The Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruzparticipated online in the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, where he requested that business with Cuba be increased.

“We ratify the commitment to expand and strengthen the mutually beneficial ties of cooperation between Cuba and the Member States of the Union,” said Marrero.

In his speech, the prime minister insisted that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has managed to become a platform for close interaction between its member states and said that it is a promising actor in the international arena.

“We must achieve greater coordination to allow the development of joint projects in areas of common interest, for which a more systematic and effective relationship between the ministries and agencies of the Commission, the Member States and Observers is essential,” commented Marrero.

The Cuban government is looking for alliances to try to get out of the economic crisis. However, the projects they plan do not materialize with the speed that the situation on the island requires.

“Our country attaches great importance to the economic, commercial, financial and cooperation relations with the Eurasian Economic Union and its Member States, which are based on the historical ties between the Cuban people and the peoples of this region,” said Marrero. .

He noted that there are opportunities in the sphere of agriculture and agribusiness. In this sense, he said that they have been promoting actions with “Belarusian partners for years“.

However, he specified that “the businesses that are managed to develop will also pay taxes on the export of Cuban products to the member countries of the EAEU.” Perhaps this is the reason why the alleged advances in this area are not noticeable in the Cuban markets.

The Eurasian Economic Union It was created in 2014, and since 2020 Cuba has been an observer country.

The Cuban Government wants to have a greater coordination role because it assures that this will allow “promoting foreign investment in Cuba for the development of animal production, such as chicken, cattle, pork, and citrus, fruit trees, sugar, cocoa and coffee,” something which, according to Marrero, can be beneficial for everyone.

In Havana, at the meeting of the April Council of Ministers, Marrero assured that in the midst of the country’s economic difficulties, “the best levels of production or performance will not be achieved.” Curiously, the president believes that “it is possible to move forward if we exploit collective intelligence to the maximum.”
