Vehicles with boxes for taking PAP and vaccination are already traveling through the urban and rural sectors of the commune, while the new ambulances are already improving the emergency response capacity.

An important milestone in Public Health materialized this May 30, in La Serena, thanks to the incorporation of 2 Mobile Clinics and 3 ambulances that strengthen and improve primary care services in the commune.

The acquisition of the modern fleet of vehicles was managed by the Gabriel González Videla Municipal Corporation and the Municipality, being financed by the Regional Government of Coquimbo, for an amount close to $570 million.

Each of the Mobile Clinics has a box for taking Pap smears and rapid HIV tests, run by a midwife, plus another for nursing care for vaccination and Adult Preventive Medicine Examination (EMPA). Both modern and spacious vehicles are already operational in the urban and rural sectors of the commune.

Meanwhile, the 3 new ambulances renew the fleet of emergency vehicles, both for the daytime workday at CESFAM Las Compañías, José María Caro and Juan Pablo II, as well as during SAPU hours at these establishments.

The new mobile phones were presented in a significant ceremony, held in front of the Regional Government, where regional councilors, authorities of the Ministry and the Health Service, councilors of La Serena and directors of the Gabriel González Videla Municipal Corporation gathered, as well as representatives of the community.

Rodrigo Fernández, director of the Health Department of the GGV Municipal Corporation, highlighted, on behalf of Mayor Roberto Jacob, the important impact that these new vehicles will have on coverage, opportunity and proximity of Primary Health to the community.

“The two mobile clinics that we inaugurated today are not simply medical care units, they are open doors to health for those who need it most. Furthermore, the new ambulances not only renew our vehicle fleet, but also strengthen our response capabilities in medical emergencies,” Fernández revealed.

For her part, the president of the Health and Sports Commission of the Coquimbo Regional Council, Ximena Ampuero, expressed her joy and satisfaction at verifying that “the work carried out within the Commission is bearing fruit and today it is materialized with the delivery of these two mobile clinics and three ambulances for La Serena.”

Those who were also very happy with the arrival of the new mobile phones were the representatives of the Advisory Councils of the commune, who expressed their satisfaction with the important benefit they represent for users.

Miriam Barrios, president of the CESFAM Health Advisory Council Emilio Schaffhauser, stated that “this is a tremendous contribution to the community, because through these mobile phones Primary Health reaches the entire commune. That is why I thank all the authorities who made this possible.”
