Banfield won this Tuesday night 2-0 against Newell’s, in an exciting match that had three penalties, within the framework of the fourth date of the 2024 Professional League and achieved its first victory in the championship.
At the Florencio Sola Stadium, the local team achieved its first victory of the tournament thanks to a double from forward Milton Giménez, who scored in the epilogue of the match.
The match was marked by intensity and emotions, with three penalties awarded, two for Banfield and one for Newell’s.
Forward Giménez was the protagonist by scoring one of the penalties, after he had to repeat the first one that missed over the crossbar, and score another goal, for a much-needed victory for the team from the south of Greater Buenos Aires.
The first penalty of the night went to Banfield, but Giménez, who had shown confidence when taking the ball, sent it over the crossbar, missing a clear opportunity to put his team ahead.
Shortly after, it was Newell’s turn. Facundo Sanguinetti, Banfield’s goalkeeper, became a momentary hero by stopping the penalty taken by Ramírez.
The intervention of the VAR also had its share of prominence. A Banfield goal was disallowed due to a millimeter offside, unleashing controversy and frustration among local fans. However, Julio César Falcioni’s team was not discouraged and continued to press. Finally, in the final minutes, Giménez redeemed himself and scored the first goal of the game after successfully taking the second penalty that was awarded to his team.
With the score in his favor, Giménez was not satisfied and continued looking to extend the advantage. In a brilliant individual play, the Banfield striker scored his second goal of the night, sealing the victory for his team.
