In the name of union, social and solidarity organizations, dozens of people gathered in front of the monument to Salvador Allende and marched with Cuban flags along Morandé Street, to the front of the La Moneda Palace, where they deposited the letter.

“We remember the many occasions on which Cuba has extended its hand of solidarity to the world and to our people in an exemplary and determined manner, since the 1960 earthquake in Valdivia,” the text states.

The more than 400 signatories remember the support for the government of President Salvador Allende, the welcome of thousands of Chileans with their families after the 1973 coup d’état and the possibility that more than 600 young Chileans, including many Mapuche, graduated as doctors. on the island.

Mauricio Calvo, of the Collective of Internationalists of Solidarity for Cuba, told Prensa Latina that the objective is for the Chilean government to carry out all diplomatic efforts to remove the Caribbean country from the list of alleged sponsors of terrorism.

In addition, La Moneda must demand the immediate end of the blockade imposed more than six decades ago by the United States on Cuba and generate immediate aid in the form of food and medical supplies to alleviate the complex situation experienced by those people.

For his part, Vasili Carrillo, also from that group, explained to this agency that the letter was previously delivered to the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies and Senators of the National Congress.

There was also a meeting with part of the Interparliamentary Committee of Friendship with Cuba, whose members committed to investigate the mechanism by which the Executive can transfer solidarity assistance to the Greater Antilles, as well as to Palestine.

In addition to the fight against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade and the sending of aid, the signatories ask to promote commercial exchange between Chile and Cuba. This would allow, they point out, a greater relationship and economic, political, social and cultural integration between both peoples.

Members of the Chilean-Cuban Friendship House of Viña del Mar participated in the event; from the José Martí and Fidelistas por Siempre groups, from Valparaíso, and Villa Sur, from the Pedro Aguirre Cerda commune, as well as from the Manuel Guerrero Pedagogical Center, from San Bernardo, among others.
