For the eighth consecutive year, the non-profit organization, Andes Consciente, held, in Chile and Argentina, various sessions, both in-person and digital, focused on the mountain community, prevention as an awareness tool and simulations of risk situations , as a way to refresh knowledge and prepare equipment for a new snow season.
At the foot of Cerro Castillo in Patagonia, together with the expert voice of Fito Torrens, the last in-person day took place. Each session consisted of a theoretical module that provides information on safety aspects in the backcountry and an experiential module, which provides tools and in which experiences are shared.
In addition, three digital sessions can be reviewed digitally, where knowledge is refreshed to go out into the backcountry.
Care for the mountains
One of the main points of why these education sessions are held in the mountains is precisely to avoid accidents due to negligence, to be prepared for complex situations and, above all, to take care of your team, your colleagues and the mountain. This was explained by the brand and communities manager of Patagonia Chile, Benjamín Carvallo.
“As in any outdoor sport, in addition to being in good physical condition, you must be prepared to manage risks and minimize them. To do this, it is necessary to check the equipment, take courses and, above all, respect the mountains,” said Carvallo.
