More than 300 houses and about 2,000 people lost everything in Apure, a district of the municipality of Plato, Magdalena, due to the overflowing of the Chimicuica stream that exceeded its flow after several hours of intense rain.

The flood surprised the inhabitants of this town early this Wednesday while they were sleeping. In Apure everything was under water, from the school to the churches, which is why the mayor of Plato Magdalena, Armando Campuzano, after taking a tour of the emergency sitelaunched an SOS, as the situation exceeded the municipality’s capacity to react.

“We are experiencing a flood of more than 300 houses that have been affected and more than 2 thousand people who have been affected by the floods. Today they have nowhere to spend the day and night and we need all the government aid. We ask the national government, the departmental government, private companies and all those people who can help us, to extend their hand to us. “This is a situation that is getting out of hand,” said Mayor Campuzano.

Several videos circulated on social networks where victims, in tears, cry out for help: “We have lost everything in Apure, we are looking for the highest part to see if we can save a little. We call on everyone to come and lend a hand to Apure, which is under a strong flood,” said one of the victims.

Due to the overflowing of the stream, Several roads also ended up flooded, leaving citizens without communication. The mayor’s office of Plato Magdalena enabled its facilities to receive all the humanitarian aid that they can donate, as well as enabling a bank account number, 51200000235.

A Unified Command Post was also installed in Apure to attend to the emergency.
