In response to the challenge of preventing scams in the digital age, the Ministry of Security and Justice has launched a series of practical advice to help citizens protect themselves and act appropriately against these threats.

This initiative, developed in collaboration with the General Directorate of Investigations and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, has the main objective of strengthening actions against cyber scams and other criminal modalities.

Among the recommendations, the importance of citizen participation and the adoption of preventive measures stands out. If you suspect of being a victim of a scam, citizens are advised to immediately call 911. The Economic Crimes and Common Crimes Division highlights the importance of these measures to guarantee an effective response to possible fraud and contribute to the prevention of crimes in the digital age. Additionally, they emphasized the need to act quickly in situations where the alleged scammer continues to maintain contact with the victim.

“Immediately calling 911 allows police personnel to intervene quickly and effectively,” they stated, detailing that it is essential to follow the instructions provided by the 911 operator to ensure an appropriate response to the situation.
