In one of the cultural squares of the largest of the Antilles with a wide artistic heritage, the debate on one of the references of cultural journalism served to discuss potential, tools and shortcomings when exercising specialized criticism.

This edition of the Colloquium revolves around the Performing Arts, an issue that increased the impact of the news on professionals in the sector, lovers of the legacy of De la Hoz, to whom the space that has researchers from several provinces of the archipelago is dedicated. .

“His mark with his humanist work and his sense of ethics is in the most diverse archives of the Granma newspaper, where he showed us what it means to believe in something and defend it,” said Yuris Nórido, art critic.

The speaker also added that “what you are is not enough, but what you do.”

In his inaugural presentation, which became an exchange that revolved around the figure of the person who obtained the Distinction for National Culture in 1996, he expressed that “for me the most important reference of cultural journalism in Cuba has died, although I know how difficult it is to absolutize.” .

Nórido explained that De la Hoz had an extensive curriculum and knowledge that “did not distinguish between classical and popular, with music of all kinds, from Jazz and others, a music lover that enriched his theoretical section.”

Regarding his legacy, he also referred to the broad scope of the work of the recently deceased press professional, recognized on the national stage for his work in terms of contributions to specialized journalism.

“He talked a lot about son and everything that the genre implies, which transcends the field of music, as well as other cultural expressions.”

For the coordinator of the event sponsored by the Hermanos Saíz Association and the Union of Journalists of Cuba, Gretel Díaz, “humanity and simplicity characterized Pedro de la Hoz.”

He also said of the investigator that “he responded to you without boasting about being a public figure.”

In this seventh opportunity of the Cultural Journalism Colloquium that will take place until next June 8, the topic regarding criticism in journalism in the field of performing arts becomes the center of the event’s debate.

Camagüey, known as the cradle of Cuban literature, dresses up with this Colloquium, which serves as a tool to evacuate concerns and carry out an effective exercise of criticism in the media spheres of the country.
