The Federal Councils for Consumer Defense and Domestic Trade met in Mendoza to strengthen common strategies for supervision and protection of consumer rights.

The Consumer Protection Directorate under the Ministry of Government is participating in the Federal Council for Consumer Defense (CoFedeC) and the Federal Council for Domestic Trade (Cofeci) that is taking place this week in the Province of Mendoza.

The provincial director of Consumer Protection, Pablo Tomasini, explained the situation in Neuquén, which included the participation of the Undersecretary of Consumer Defense and Commercial Loyalty of the Nation, Blanco Muiño, and local authorities in the area of consumer defense.

Tomasini indicated: “It is essential that these meetings be held where we address topics that are as current and relevant to people as consumer protection regarding contracts signed with prepaid companies or issues related to rentals.”

“We were able to share the work we do in our province and confirm that we are aligned with what was presented at the conference, for example, with the recently approved Law on the Regulation of Temporary Rentals promoted by the governor, Rolando Figueroa. “Together we have a clear goal, which is to put citizens ahead,” the official added.

The central trigger of the debate was the inspection of contracts of student tourism and prepaid medicine companies, as well as the analysis of the necessary measures to ensure that the agreements comply with current regulations and the different problems faced by consumers in this sector.

The difficulties that consumers encounter with credit cards were also addressed in terms of cancellations and refunds of amounts charged in excess, the current situation of legal metrology and inspection actions regarding the display of prices, expired products, scales and misleading advertising.
