In San Jacinto del Cauca, Bolívar, the consortium in charge of plugging the Caregato jet is working on both fronts to seal the entry of water that has caused flooding in the region, indicated Mayor Oney Hernández, who estimates that the works could be completed within a maximum period of 20 days.

According to statements from the mayor, the consortium has been working in recent days to cover the remaining approximately 50 meters of the jet. “We hope that this consortium can once again cut off the entry of water into our region, We have the desire, we have the expectation that the Caregato jet, approximately in 20 days at the latest, should be covered”said Hernandez.

The mayor, along with his team, visits the area in the morning and afternoon to supervise that the necessary work for the plugging is being carried out.

Hernández assured that there is still hope that the plugging of the Caregato jet will be completed within the estimated time, but he recognizes that the task is not easy. The community awaits the progress of the works and hopes that this measure can provide relief to the difficult situation they face due to the floods.

Although the closure of the Caregato stream represents an important step to mitigate flooding, the local president indicated that the municipality faces 22 other critical points from Nechí, Antioquia, to Achí, Bolívar.
