UNCuyo announced the new secondary school admission system: what will the work with the DGE be like?

This Thursday from 6 p.m., the UNWhose confirmed in the Central Cylinder of the CICUNC how the admissions to the schools of the National University of Cuyo will be. According to the rector Esther Sanchez It is “a commitment that the current administration made to guarantee equal opportunities” after what was the controversy of 2023 in which there was an excessive demand for an average of “absolute 10” in admission to secondary schools.

There will be materials available for all 7th grade students in Mendoza schools with joint work with the DGE. Then, UNCuyo will pre-register for a leveling course to integrate the knowledge to evaluate it later (subjects such as language and mathematics) and then average it. These averages will be taken into account for admission. Until today, only students with an average of 10 were admitted. What is not yet known is where the “cut-off line” of the averages will be placed. “We are going to give possibilities and resources to more kids than before,” they remarked from the educational institution. In case of a tie, there will be a draw.

This new system will be implemented to define the entrants to the schools of the National University of Cuyo for the next school year, that is, for 2025 entry to schools such as: DAD, CUCMartín Zapata, Liceo Agricola y Magisterio.

“He Better advice approved a new modality for the entry of students to the secondary school of the UNWhose. It is an innovative and superior proposal. It should be noted that the proposal aims at an entry that expands the number of applicants and not only that, but there will be training for Primary students to enter Secondary School. The University is going to make available a platform with a quantity of information necessary so that students have the tools to start secondary school. It will not only be available for applicants, but also for those who finish Primary and start Secondary. It has an impact from the point of view of inclusion,” commented the Rector of UNCuyo, Esther Sanchez at a press conference.

New modality to enter CUC and other university colleges

And he added: “This guarantees equal opportunities. The previous method was admission by average and by merit, last year the “absolute ten” arose and now the opportunity is opened to those who have grades below 10, this expands the world of opportunities for more students. We must highlight the joint work with the DGE, there will be complete articulation to allow you to use the tools and work with students to prepare them for secondary school. This is relevant, we thank you for the work done.”

“Throughout history there have been changes in admission to secondary schools, this is one of the best proposals, we consider it the best and most viable at the moment. Surely when it is developed we will improve it. Let’s to take into account the grades from their previous schools, there is an evaluation and if at the end of the evaluation for those who have the same score we will apply a lottery. We are going to ensure that the applicants have the necessary skills,” he highlighted. Esther Sanchez.

And he concluded by saying: “There were many 10s last year, this is something that we cannot analyze why those absolute 10s were given. The vacancies that we had were exceeded and we were not able to resolve them equitably. The number of vacancies is always the same. “the same as in 2022”.

Regarding the technical aspects, Maria Ana BarrozoGeneral Director of Secondary Education at UNCuyo, explained: “The most important thing is that we make a proposal that has been worked on for a long time. It is superior because all students who pre-register will receive a training aspect, it is prior and mandatory for those who who wish to enter schools. The interesting thing is that, although it is leveled, the knowledge and skills learned in Primary are also recovered. The added value is the work with the DGE for seventh grade students to enter the new secondary school path, we believe that they will do so in better conditions.

“We plan to have a hybrid modality with face-to-face and virtual instances in subjects such as mathematics and language, these are curricular spaces that are transversal for all children. We are going to recover what primary school students should know, there we will know what level of capacities we will have on average. What the father or mother has to know is that what follows is the publication of the schedule with the key dates for after the school break so that the student can begin with that pre-registration,” added Barrozo.

The DAD, another of the university colleges in Mendoza.

“The average is done by us after a test in language and mathematics, we also take the journey through the school as a reference. We cannot serve more than 10,000 students, today we have 1,047 students with an absolute ten. We are going to have students now with 9.50 Maybe this has just been approved, the new regulations come out and apply for 2025 entry.

During 2023 there were more than 1,000 registered in relation to the vacancies that existed. That is to say, demand exceeded supply since more than 1,047 students recorded a grade of 10 absolute in their average upon leaving Primary School. This generated controversy since there were many students with 9.90, for example, who could not enter the university college they wanted.
