Four municipalities of Valle del Cauca to know

The Cauca Valley is characterized by its varied geography, which ranges from the beaches of the Pacific Ocean to the imposing peaks of the Western Cordillera. These are four little-known destinations in the department.

It is known as “Coffee Capital of Colombia”, “Balcony of Valle del Cauca”, “Capital of Culture and Intelligence of Valle del Cauca”. Among its festivities are the Anniversary Festivities and the Coffee Queen in the month of May; the Bandola Festival in the second week of August; the National Unpublished Coffee Song Contest in the month of April or May.

Among the activities you can do in this town you can take jeep tours, try the famous punch and take the coffee tour.

Roldanillo is a city of colonial architecture where buildings such as the Hermitage, which venerates the patron saint of the city, the Parish of Roldanillo, founded in 1576, the Chapel of Santa Rita and Our Lady of Chiquinquirá stand out.

What makes Roldanillo famous today is its Rayo Museum, built 15 years ago in honor of the teacher Rayo, a native of Roldanillo.

Adorned by old houses and large colonial haciendas, this place invites you to enjoy its warm climate and friendly people. Every year in the month of May, the municipality of Ginebra Valle offers Colombia its Mono Nuñez Andean Music Festival, named in honor of its main sponsor, Don Benigno “Mono” Nuñez.

The municipality of Ginebra has no rival in its Country Restaurants with its famous Sancocho de Gallina, cooked on a wood stove.

The municipal seat is called El Darién, because one of its founders, Don Nicolás Restrepo, found it similar to some places in the Darién region, in the department of Chocó. Its river basins, those of the Bravo River and the Calima River, and the majesty of the Cerbatana mountain range are some of the greatest natural attractions of this destination.

The Calima River has the third fastest winds in the world for practicing water sports such as sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. Also surrounded by beautiful landscapes, hotels, recreational centers and camping spaces. In the Archaeological Museum you can find the pre-Columbian Calima culture, of legendary chiefdoms and of great artistic value for its geometric engravings on ceramics and gold pieces.

These four municipalities of Valle del Cauca are part of the Magic Towns, an initiative of the Government of Valle del Cauca and the Ministry of Tourism to promote this sector of the Valle del Cauca economy.
