The Chilean Investigative Police (PDI) carried out a mega operation in the city of Iquique, as part of its functions of immigration control and inspection of foreigners in the country. This deployment is part of the powers granted to them by law and was also carried out in the regions of Arica and Parinacota, and Antofagasta, with the objective of identifying and controlling foreigners who enter the national territory evading established border controls.
In Tarapacá, the operation involved 70 detectives, who were distributed in strategic sectors of Iquique, previously determined by the PDI Analysis Office in the region. This analytical approach allowed for a more efficient and focused intervention, demonstrating the commitment of the civil police to security and order in the country.
During the operation in Iquique, a total of 146 people were inspected, resulting in the complaint of 39 foreigners for irregular immigration status. Likewise, another 4 foreigners were notified of current expulsion. Additionally, within the framework of the operation, a Colombian citizen was arrested for the flagrant crime of violating Law 20,000, related to drug trafficking, and two Venezuelan citizens for the flagrant crime of receiving.
The work of the PDI in this operation stands out for its effectiveness and coordination, reaffirming its crucial role in immigration control and public security. These types of actions not only contribute to maintaining order in local communities, but also ensure that immigration laws are respected, thus protecting the rights and integrity of all the country’s inhabitants.
The PDI continues to work hard to guarantee a safe and regulated environment, demonstrating once again its commitment to surveillance and inspection within the framework of its legal powers.
