Strong earthquake shook the Colombian Pacific coast TODAY: epicenter, magnitude and more

On the morning of this Friday, June 7, a strong earthquake of magnitude 3.7 shook the coasts of the Colombian Pacific, according to the Colombian Geological Service (SGC).

This earthquake, which was recorded at 10:27 am, had the Pacific Ocean as its epicenter, off the coast of the department of Nariño.

As recorded by the SGC, an entity that monitors seismic events in the national territory and the region, the earthquake had a superficial depth, that is, less than 30 kilometers.

Until now, it is unknown if this earthquake caused any type of damage to the infrastructure of this region in the southwest of Colombia.

The SGC has detailed on several occasions that up to 2,500 earthquakes can occur in Colombia over the course of a month. due to its geological and tectonic configuration, in which there are many plates that are in contact in a large part of the national territory.

As explained by the entity, this is the reason why seismic activity occurs daily, especially in the surrounding regions, on the coasts of the Pacific Ocean, in the Caribbean region and around the three mountain ranges, where this earthquake occurred.
