The Port Union of Chile reported that Puerto Coronel has engaged in anti-union practices and has violated the labor rights of temporary dockworkers, which occurs within the framework of the implementation of the alcohol and drug consumption prevention policy that, it should be remembered, unleashed the conflict that paralyzed the operation of the terminal. between March 26 and May 20.
The treaty was also made known by the temporary workers of the Colonelino maritime terminal after the Bio Bio Regional Work Directorate realize that there are “sufficient indications of violation of the right to privacy as a consequence of the implementation of the alcohol and drug policy.” This sparked the “unconditional” support of the International Dockworkers Council (IDC).
In this context, the entity that represents approximately 90% of Chilean port workers denounced “the anti-union practices and serious violations of fundamental rights at the Puerto Coronel Terminal. The current administration, headed by general manager Patricio Románis identified as the main person responsible for this conflict.”
“The Labor Directorate has found sufficient evidence of violation of fundamental rights, including the incorrect implementation of the alcohol and drug policy. Furthermore, it has been established that the method of carrying out the appointment by the company on the days of the terminal closure violates the autonomy of the union organizations,” he added.
In this sense, the Port Union urged the board of directors of the Puerto Coronel Company to “publicly express their position and respect the resolutions of the administrative authority.”
“The organization reaffirms its support for the workers of the Port of Coronel and asks the Government to intervene in this conflict,” he concluded.
