In the afternoon hours of Friday, June 7, a strong explosion was reported in the town of Robles, located in the rural area of the municipality of Jamundí, in the department of Valle del Cauca. According to preliminary reports, the emergency occurred due to the explosion of a private car in the vicinity of the Police substation. In principle, it is believed that the incident was a car bomb with the intention of generating terror in the community.
For their part, the authorities report that, for the moment, no deaths or injuries have been reported due to the explosion, for now only some homes near the area of the explosion have been affected. It is important to remember that On May 24, also in the town of Robles, an attack occurred against the same Police substation, which was hit with several rifle rounds.this attack, it is believed, was carried out by the FARC dissidents who have a presence in that region of the country.
Serious security situation in Valle del Cauca
On May 20, another attack with a vehicle bomb occurred in the municipality of Jamundí, Valle del Cauca, against a residence of several Military Forces officers. According to reports provided by the authorities, the explosive device was detonated on a motorcycle parked near the police station.. Authorities have cordoned off the area to ensure security and collect evidence.
The mayor of the municipality, at the time, stated that, “the attack, perpetrated with a motorcycle bomb, occurred next to the hotel where the new police officers who reinforce the security of the municipality are staying. The explosion was immediately attended to by special forces, who identified two police officers with minor injuries. These officers are being treated at the Jamundí pilot hospital and are out of danger”.
