On Journalist’s Day, Governor Gustavo Sáenz named the Press Room of the Government House after Javier Lamas, who was Secretary of Press and Communication until December 13, 2023.
“This is our humble tribute to a great man and a great journalist, a good father, a good friend, a good companion and an example of life. We wanted to recognize him for his great human capacity, for his effort and commitment in each and every one of the places where he worked. Here we met him, we value him, we love him and we are going to miss him until eternity,” said Sáenz during the tribute.
And he added: “Javier was a man who until the last days of his life continued to give everything, work was his goal, effort, doing things well and commitment. He left us a wonderful legacy, his two sons, Juanchi and Facundo who, above all things, are, like him, two good people, who together with their mother Cecilia moved forward with strength and did not give up, because that was the example he gave them. You left an unforgettable legacy, in your family, in your friends, in all of us who loved you and in all the Salteños,” he concluded.
Finally, and in that same context, the governor greeted the journalists on his day: “Happy Journalist’s Day to each and every one of you, congratulations for being in the trenches every day looking for the news,” he expressed. “Journalism is telling the truth, even if it hurts, and those of us who govern have the obligation to listen.”
The Secretary of Press and Communication, Cecilia Allemand, widow of the missing journalist, emotionally thanked the Governor for his support and generosity in carrying out this tribute in recognition of Javier, his professional career and his human warmth. She did it accompanied by his children and family.
The act
Prior to the speeches, the Governor and the Vice Governor raised the national and provincial flags, respectively, together with journalists from Salta. The event was in the Plaza De las Banderas of the Civic Center.
Subsequently, an institutional video was shown to remember the trajectory of Javier Lamas and the reading of decree No. 333 was carried out, by which the Press Room of the Government House is formalized with his name.
Then Sáenz gave the document to his family and discovered a commemorative plaque. The legal instrument refers to the numerous distinctions he received: the Olimpia Salta awards, Voices of the Argentine Society of Broadcasters and the Phersu award, having also carried out numerous national and international journalistic coverage, in addition to joining the broadcasts of the soccer World Cups. in 1998 from France, Germany in 2006 and South Africa in 2010.
