We will work next Tuesday the 11th together with other governmental and non-governmental devices to address different problems of the most vulnerable groups in Mendoza.

The Ministry of Health and Sports will carry out a comprehensive health operation for homeless people in Mendoza. It will be on Tuesday, June 11 at the Church of La Merced, in the City.

The initiative is led by the UAPSI (Itinerant Primary Health Care Unit), which depends on the Primary Care Directorate. This unit was formed in 2016 as the province’s homeless program, and has a community health team, with psychologists, doctors, social workers and health agents, which serves three times a week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 7 a.m. at 15.

Likewise, the church offers more than 10 training workshops aimed at finding a job for homeless people. There are electricity workshops, carpentry workshops, baking workshops, ceramic workshops, they are all workshops for socio-educational, socio-labor and socio-cultural inclusion. In addition, those who come to the church headquarters have showers, twice a week to clean themselves, and also a breakfast room, three times a week so they can have breakfast.

The church also has a satellite classroom so that homeless people can finish primary school, a CEVJA, from the State, and there is also Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous and Alanón, to address problematic consumption.

Among the teams that will work, on the side of the Health portfolio, will be the professionals of Dentistry, Sexual and Reproductive Health Program, Directorate of Older Adults, laboratory, doctors, the HIV test will be done, and the mental health approach will be carried out. , as well as problematic consumption with professionals from the Mental Health Directorate. Meanwhile, Social Economy, Contingency and Gender will be present in Community Development.

The idea is to be able to operationalize a large number of specialized consultations in one morning, which would otherwise take months to access. The UAPSI, specifically, carries out between 400 and 500 monthly consultations with homeless people and coordinates with the different directorates of the Ministry of Health, with the health centers, with the CPAs, which are for addressing problematic consumption, with Disabilities. , with the Women’s House, for everything related to women’s health such as PAP, colposcopy, mammograms, cervical cancer prevention.

In the province there are currently more than 700 homeless people in Mendoza, but more than 80-85% are addressed by the UAPSI and are in shelters in the province or also shelters or boarding houses that have an agreement with the government.
