From the Meeting of Regions for Education, organized by the National Federation of Departments (FND) in Riohacha, La Guajira, and where he presented the projections on coverage of the School Feeding Program (PAE), the governor of Atlántico, Eduardo Verano, highlighted the progress and projections of the program.

We are carrying out a diagnosis of the infrastructure of kitchens and school cafeterias in our schools

The president added that another challenge that he sees in his administration is to pave the way for all of the PAE rations to be prepared in the same schools with all the guarantees of health and to reduce the supply of industrialized foods to the maximum.

“We are carrying out a diagnosis of the infrastructure of kitchens and school cafeterias in our schools to define the adjustments and investments necessary to provide quality and nutritional contributions to students. By having students access to quality organic food, their brain and body development is optimized, which should be a priority in the first five years of life, a stage in which the brain is 85% formed,” said Verano.

Effective 2024, the Atlantic Governorate increased, in the 20 non-certified municipalities, the coverage of PAE beneficiaries from 40,000 to 47,500 students and this represents 1,300,000 additional rations during the year.

Verano also indicated that the department of Atlantico has hired the National University of Colombia to intervene in the provision of the school feeding service. La Unal has a track record of more than 20 years of experience in the food service framework, the administrative, economic and financial capacity to successfully carry out this type of projects.

The ‘Atlantic for the World’ development plan contemplates allocating most of the budget to the Education sector, as the main tool for territorial development.
