Havana.- THE FRENCH Amina Taleb won the golden hands category, and was involved in the “sweep” of Cuba in the awards ceremony of the II Baseball5 Caribbean Cup, which was held on the field of the Arenas Blancas hotel, in the resort of Varadero.
The young second baseman, silver medalist at the 2023 world junior championship in Ankara, Turkey, showed her excellent defensive skills, contributing to France’s bronze in the Caribbean competition that included four teams (Cuba Azul and Cuba Rojo), besides Jamaica.
«It is a dream to win this award in Cuba, where there are players who perform very well in defense, some of them with world titles in the senior and youth categories. This is the fruit of a lot of dedication and dedication in training,” Taleb commented exclusively with HIT.
«I started playing baseball and then I moved to softball for a while. But three years ago I discovered this type of baseball5, which is more fun and appropriate to my characteristics as a player. And I’m not leaving here,” she commented jokingly.
Amine explained that his participation last year in the World Cup in Turkey helped him achieve this result in Varadero.
«The France team is like a family and we help each other a lot. Those on the field talk among themselves and create game situations, while also receiving positive phrases from those who stayed on the bench. And that lifts your spirits,” he said.
“I came to Cuba accompanied by several players who we have known since the event in Turkey and we were able to perform with a better fit, guided by a Cuban athlete as capable as Omar Henry Diodene,” she said.
Diodene is from Santiago and is a French national. Amina says that he owes her a lot in developing him as a second baseman.
«Omar is like a father and on the field he advises me at every moment of the game. And since he knows the way the Cubans play this game, he knows how to “read” the various situations that arise and indicates where on the court they will try to hit,” Taleb said.
