Five people with disabilities and four adults receive Confirmation in the San José Obrero de Silla parish In a ceremony presided over by the episcopal vicar, Jesús Corbí

Five people with disabilities and four adults received Confirmation today, Sunday, in the San José Obrero de Silla parish, in a ceremony presided over by the episcopal vicar Jesús Corbí.

People with disabilities have received prior training to prepare to receive this sacrament, with the accompaniment of priest Jorge López, parish priest in Silla, who is part of the team of the Diocesan Secretariat for People with Disabilities of the archdiocese of Valencia.

With this sacrament of Christian initiation, those confirming strengthen their union with the Church and they deepen their faith although they themselves “are already an example and sign of evangelization in this world, where they have and will continue to develop their mission that they have already been entrusted with,” says Jorge López.

Precisely, the Secretariat for Disability, for which the Archbishop of Valencia, Mons. Enrique Benavent, recently appointed priest Camilo Ruiz as director, was recently presented by the Vicariate of Evangelization.

The Secretariat has headquarters in the San Francisco de Borja de Gandia parish, where Camilo Ruiz is parish priest; in the San José Obrero de Silla parish, whose parish priest is Jorge López, and in the San Miguel and San Sebastián parish of Valencia, where the priest Carlos Bou is also located. All of them have extensive experience in the pastoral and spiritual accompaniment of people with disabilities and are the promoters of the ‘Anawin’ camps, for people with disabilities, which take place in summer at the Major Seminary of Moncada.

With this Secretariat, the Church in Valencia wants to give face, welcome and accompany people with disabilities and their families on their journey of faith, as well as open channels of evangelization. It currently works in coordination with the rest of the diocesan delegations to offer materials and help for the accompaniment and catechesis of people with different disabilities and also coordinates the activities carried out by the different parishes and entities with people with disabilities.
