Participation in the 2024 European Parliament elections in La Rioja, at 2:00 p.m. this Sunday, stands at 31.32 percent (73,995 voters). Compared to 2019, turnout is 7.04 percent less (90,419 voters). At the national level, participation in the 2024 European Parliament elections at 2:00 p.m. stands at 28.01%, which is 6.74 points less than in 2019, when they coincided with the municipal and regional elections.
However, participation is four points higher than in the 2014 European elections, which were held without coinciding with any other electoral event. On that occasion the participation at 2:00 p.m. was 23.84%.
The Secretary of State for Communication, Francesc Vallès, explained at a press conference that the average participation in the European elections until 2:00 p.m. is 24%, so participation on this occasion is significantly higher than the average .
In total, as of 2:00 p.m., almost 10 million people had voted in person in Spain. The participation data does not include voting by mail, a system that more than 580,000 people have used.
The autonomous communities where the highest participation is recorded until 2:00 p.m. are Comunidad Valenciana (33.15%), Comunidad de Madrid (32.03%) and Cantabria (31.42%).
Participation is lower in all the autonomous communities compared to 2019. Where a greater drop has been registered until 2:00 p.m. has been in Extremadura (10.98 points less), Catalonia (10.61 points less) and Melilla (8.86 points less less).
