The PP maintains in the European elections the dominance it achieved in the last national elections, those of 23-J. The popular ones obtain 44.7% of the votes, compared to 32.58% of the socialists. The result of the ‘popular’ is more comfortable in the community than in the rest of the country. In reality, both majority parties lose some percentage compared to July, the socialists a little more: the PP was then at 45.64% and the PSOE at 35.68%.

Behind them, Vox remains the third electoral force in La Rioja, although it loses percentage compared to last July: it now reaches 8.79%. The reason for the fall of Vox: the appearance of the group ‘The party is over’, by the well-known ultra propagandist Alvise Pérez, which takes 3.66% of the votes in La Rioja.

Regarding the votes to the left of the PSOE, the breakup of Sumar and Podemos has not gone well: together they added 6.57% of the votes in the general elections, and now Sumar is left with 3.25% and Podemos with 2.32%.

The Europeans once again emphasize the disappearance of Ciudadanos, which does not exceed 0.62% of the votes. Slightly above the Pacma animal activists, who are satisfied with 0.5% of the votes cast.

The PP wins in all the regional capitals of La Rioja, including those that currently remain a bastion of the PSOE, Torrecilla and Arnedo. Thus, the popular parties prevail in the vast majority of Rioja municipalities: 138 for the popular parties, 32 for the PSOE, 1 for Vox (Torremontalbo). And three others, with a tie: Castroviejo, Navajún and Arenzana de Arriba.

On a night in which the PP can boast of victory, although not as comfortable as it would have liked, the ‘popular’ Riojans have their own reason for joy: Gonzalo Capellán’s team have achieved the biggest victory (the highest percentage) in all of Spain . All this, with a significantly lower participation: it has gone from 64% in 2019 to 52% this Sunday.

The map of La Rioja is thus a blue March dotted with red, with a small green exception Vox (Torremontalbo) and three gray ties.

The comparison

In 2019, things were very different. The PSOE then dominated the board, with a clear victory by six percentage points: 37.14% compared to 31.12% for the ‘popular’. At that time Ciudadanos was still on the board, scraping 13% of the votes, with Podemos as the fourth force (5.2%).

If we compare with last year’s general elections, on June 23, the political table had already turned. The PP had already engulfed Ciudadanos, with 45.64% of the votes and almost 80,000 votes. The PSOE remained with 35% of the votes, Vox was already the third force with 35.68% and Vox became the third force, with 9.77% of the votes.
