Minutes after 3 p.m. this Sunday, a Renault Megane and a Renault 12 collided in the Route 82, meters ahead of the Cacheuta suspension bridge. The incident, which left people injured, generated a total traffic cut in both directions and several complications taking into account that the good weather has caused many Mendoza residents and tourists to look for spaces in the high mountains to spend the day of rest.

According to the Ministry of Security, at 3:14 p.m., several calls came to the emergency line (911) reporting a accident between two vehicles. When Mendoza Police personnel arrived at the scene, a witness stated that he was driving behind the Renault 12, which was circulating “performing dangerous maneuvers” and even from inside the vehicle, at one point, they threw a bottle of wine. He then collided with a Renault Megane that was heading in the opposite direction.

The incident caused both vehicles to block the roads and this led to a subsequent total blockage of traffic on that section of Route 82. Sources indicated that the driver of the Renault 12, a 34-year-old man, loudly stated that he had taken “a bottle of wine” and refused to take a breathalyzer test.

As for the injured, two of them were aboard the aforementioned Renault 12. The driver’s partner (24 years old) and his son (6) suffered multiple injuries, being transferred to the Lagomaggiore hospital and the Notti hospital, respectively. Meanwhile, the three people who were on board the Megane also suffered injuries and were taken to the Central hospital. The breathalyzer test of the driver of the Megane showed 0.0 grams of alcohol in his blood.
