The new leader of the Bajirenses was elected with the endorsement of the Liberal party and with 50.58% of the vote, after an atypical election day, which took place in total normality in municipality number 31 of Chocó.

13 councilors were also elected in the municipality of Nuevo Belén de Bajirá, Chocó, in which a total of 8,972 citizens (4,004 women and 4,968 men) were declared eligible to exercise their right to vote.
For this process, the National Registry of Civil Status installed 11 voting stations, one in the municipal seat and 10 in townships, which were made up of 31 tables. In turn, 231 voting jurors were appointed (186 regulars and 45 remaining).

“The democratic day for the election of local authorities in Nuevo Belén de Bajirá was carried out normally and the inhabitants of the municipality went to the polls in complete calm. The National Registry Office provided full guarantees for the development of the elections in this new Choco municipality,” said the national registrar of Civil Status, Hernán Penagos.

The elected mayor committed to turning this municipality into a model territory that unites the Urabá region, Darién, and that is also an important agricultural pantry for the country.
