Three new pairs of Metrotram They arrived this Monday in the province of Mendoza, coming from California, United States. They were donated two years ago by the City of San Diego transportation system to the Mendoza Transportation Society (STM). The cost of the operation was $660 million and was borne by the local government.

The Government indicated that with this incorporation the fleet of the Metrotram in the province. From the second half of 2022 to date, 12 operational pairs in the public transportation service have joined the system. All units have a length of 25 meters per pair, 8 doors for ascent and descent, a ramp for the disabled and a capacity of 64 seats.

The incorporation of new pairs for the Metrotram will allow the extension of the service route from Godoy Cruz to Luján, with a variant to Chacras de Coria, and from Las Heras to the airport. In the north, the 6-kilometer continuation will be carried out from the Avellaneda de Panquehua station (inaugurated in May 2019) to the Francisco Gabrielli Airport. The works for the extension to both sides are already underway.

At the end of April 2024, the public company in charge of managing the province’s public transportation system (STM) requested the transfer of funds to be applied to the operation of logistics, transportation and other obligations related to the incorporation of units. . Through decree 719, published in the Official Gazette, Governor Alfredo Cornejo authorized the transfer of $660 million to the STM as an “irrevocable capital contribution”, based on what is established in the 2024 Provincial Budget.

In March 2022, the Government accepted the donation of 39 used 1995 Siemens SD100 long rail cars (LRVs), to be transported in batches and serial numbers in accordance with the donation certificate, signed by Metropolitan Transit System. At the time of signing the agreement, it was established that the transfer of the units would be made in 13 different trips and that the logistics costs would be borne by the province.
