After intense twists and turns that took more than a year, the sentence for the driver who killed Francisco Márquez was finally announced. The Justice of San Juan decided to approve the abbreviated trial agreement for Gonzalo Nicolás Castro and for which he was sentenced to three years of suspended prison, that is, he will not go to jail. In addition, the penalty of disqualification from driving for a period of nine years was included.

Márquez’s family and the lawsuit still maintain that Castro ran over and killed the 22-year-old motorcyclist in the middle of an illegal dive in El Pinar. This event occurred on April 8, 2023. In the previous hearing, Judge Ana Gema Guerrero issued a fourth intermission to decide whether or not she accepted the abbreviated trial agreement. It took place on a very special date, last June 6, since Francisco would have been celebrating his birthday.

Already this Monday, June 10, at the resumption of the fourth intermission, an abbreviated trial agreement was reached, which the judge approved, thus giving Gonzalo a three-year suspended prison sentence and nine years of disqualification from driving. Nicolas Castro.

On the other hand, the sister of the deceased Francisco Márquez issued a few words on June 6, when the fourth intermission was dictated. “The truth is that it is very hard, that in the province of San Juan there is no justice. But the hardest thing is what on my brother’s birthday. Today I should be in the center, buying a gift, organizing his birthday. And the Justice of San Juan, the best gift they want to give my brother for his birthday, is an abbreviated trial for the murderer who killed him,” said the young woman through tears.
