INDESPA launches first digital photography contest: “Caletas de Chile: Coastal Cultural Heritage”

**Reception of photographs is until this Friday, June 14 and selection of winning images will be by popular vote on social networks, shaping a collection of postcards and traveling exhibition.

“Caletas of Chile: Coastal Cultural Heritage” is the name of the first photographic contest of the National Institute for Sustainable Development of Artisanal Fishing and Small-Scale Aquaculture, INDESPA. The initiative, framed in the commemoration of the National Artisanal Fishing Day that is celebrated every June 29, aims to recognize and highlight, through photography, the cultural, social and economic value of artisanal fishing in the coastal territory where more than 540 coves of artisanal fishermen and women in Chile are located.

Aimed at citizens who are fond of photography, this call includes as its central theme the daily activities and scenes of artisanal fishing around a cove of artisanal fishermen and women, along the Chilean coast.

Leonardo Llanos Huerta, national director of INDESPA, invited citizens to participate in this call. “We are in the month that we commemorate the national day of artisanal fishing, when the coves become the scene of the traditional San Pedro festivities. We want to generate an instance of citizen participation, which encourages citizens to capture a moment, recognize and value everything that happens in the economic, cultural and tourist sphere around a cove and the fishing environment with its activities and elements.”

How to take part

For this contest, participants will be able to capture moments and images that convey the action of a person in relation to the environment, their activity, a group of people in the landscape or elements associated with artisanal fishing activity (for example, vessels, fishing resources, fishing gear, others).
