Three minors reported in Guadalajara for sharing intimate images of a minor

The Guadalajara Civil Guard has denounced three minors for disseminating intimate images of sexual content of a minor on social networks. The investigations began after the girl’s mother filed a complaint at the police headquarters. Civil Guard of El Casar (Guadalajara) in which he explained that private images of his daughter were circulating on a social network.

Investigators were able to identify three minors as the alleged perpetrators of these events. One of them turned out to be an ex-boyfriend of her minor, who took screenshots during a video call with her and, later, after breaking up their relationship, shared them with two other minors. They later spread them on social networks. Due to these events, the three have been denounced as alleged perpetrators of a crime of discovery and disclosure of secrets that the Penal Code punishes with prison sentences of one to four years and a fine of twelve to twenty-four months.

As a result of these events, the Civil Guard has warned of the risk of practicing “sexting”, which consists of sending photographs or videos of sexual content produced by oneself through a mobile phone or other device with an internet connection. As these are intimate contents, their dissemination entails loss of privacy and, if it reaches third parties, it can damage the reputation of the victim, deteriorating their public image. Furthermore, this disclosure can lead to other more serious consequences such as sexual harassment, extortion and blackmail. There are also physical risks since these contents can be used by potential aggressors to select their victims since the contents can sometimes show elements that help to easily determine the location of the minor, such as, for example, the center where they study, their home or geolocation at all times.
