The dream of having better spaces for practicing sports in the La Magdalena neighborhood will soon be a reality. The mayor of Barranquilla, Alejandro Char, inspected this Monday the progress in the construction of the La Magdalena sports center, a mega-project that will return to the southeast of Barranquilla an iconic space where the city’s great athletes have been forged.

“We came to the La Magdalena neighborhood to review how the sports center works are progressing. I tell you that this looks very good, we are building a tremendous sports complex for our people from all over the southeast,” the mayor published on his X account. (See trill).

The district president, accompanied by the rector of the Marco Fidel Suárez school, Óscar Marriaga, was very happy when evaluating the details of the sports project, which will have 31,532 square meters, as well as the verification of the school’s infrastructure, which will be intervened to optimize student learning.

“I am so happy to be here. This project includes two sand soccer fields, which is very important, and a youth baseball field up to the first category. In addition, there will be a professional skating rink, an element that the people of southeastern Barranquilla have been asking for. We want the Marco Fidel Suárez school to be integrated into the park and the park to be integrated into the school. It is much more sports space for Barranquilla. “I am very happy to socialize this project again, we are already under construction, the works have already begun,” said President Char.

The sports center will have a 160 linear meter semi-professional skating rink, which will be the second of its kind in the city, this time to benefit practitioners of this sport in the southeast of the city.

The intervention also includes the construction of a polished concrete floor hockey field and the reconstruction of two sand soccer fields, an enclosing wall and the construction of covered galleries.

The youth league baseball field will also be recovered, which has an area of ​​8,790 square meters, covered stands, construction of dugoutsbathrooms and dressing rooms.

On the other hand, work will be carried out for a ring measuring 7×7 meters, which will have a roof and stands, as well as a boxing gym with an area of ​​50 square meters, bathrooms and changing rooms for athletes, public bathrooms and warehouses. for park rangers.

It should be noted that, maintaining the accessibility policy for people with disabilities, the sports center will comply with the inclusive design characteristics to guarantee access for this population through the construction of platforms, ramps and squares that facilitate their access and mobility. .
