«The agreement is ready, it just needs to be signed. We believe that it was an agenda problem and that in the coming days La Rioja will sign the agreement and public works will be reactivated,” said Minister Del Moral, who ruled out any National conditioning linked to the Bases Law.

Despite the undated postponement of the agreement that the provincial government was going to sign with the Nation on Monday for the reactivation of public works, there is optimism in the Casa de las Tejas and it is expected that this agreement will finally be sealed.

«We were working all May with the Nation, the agreement is already ready, it just needs to be signed. We agreed on the works that the Province is responsible for and those that the Nation would be responsible for. I want to think that this was an agenda problem and that in the next few days La Rioja is going to sign the agreement and public works will be reactivated,” the Minister of Infrastructure, Marcelo Del Moral, declared on Riojavirtual Radio.

Del Moral recalled that the agreement for the reactivation of public works in the province contemplates that the Casa Rosada will finance road works for an amount that is around $187 billion. «In the previous administration, $205 billion in public works had been stipulated with the Nation. Of that total, the Nation would now contribute $187 billion and the Province will take care of the rest. The Nation will do the road works while the Province will be in charge of the infrastructure, hospitals and education works,” he said.

The provincial official highlighted that this Wednesday there will be a new meeting with national authorities.

At this point, Del Moral was asked if he believes that the debate in the Senate over the Bases Law could be a condition for whether or not the agreement between the Casa Rosada and the Riojan government is signed.

«At no time did they pose any conditions to us to sign the agreement. I don’t want to think that if the Base Law is not approved, public works will not be reactivated or that politics has intervened in this with the actors we have in the province to stop the agreement. Because if that is so, they are not harming the provincial government but rather harming the people, especially those who today do not have daily sustenance to bring bread home as is the case with construction workers. Today in the province we have 5,500 construction workers without work,” he said.

For Del Moral “public works have to be reactivated throughout the country so that the provincial economies begin to function.” “There is no way to reactivate the economy without reactivating public works,” he stated.

Finally, the head of Infrastructure mentioned the road works that require urgent reactivation in the province. «We must reactivate the center’s work urgently because we have four to six months left before the rains return. We must also reactivate the work of Chacho, the work of National Route 75, which is the one that goes from Las Padercitas to the dam. The work on Los Cactus Avenue, the Hospital, technical schools, the road to Chilecito. There is a lot of paralyzed work that is a priority for the Province,” he said.
