The coal producers who join Fenalcarbón showed their rejection of the proposal of the National government of suspend coal exports to Israel.
The union assured that considers that what was announced is “an arbitrary, illegal and unconstitutional measure, which threatens the freedom of business.” and that puts the political and economic stability of Colombia at risk.”
Added to the above, Fenalcarbón warned that if the proposal is fulfilled, it will have serious damages for Colombia and, in particular, for some thermal coal producing regions as are La Guajira and Cesar.
The president of the union, Carlos Cante, said: “This is a commercial measure that goes against the interests of the national industry.generating serious effects and uncertainty for the coal sector, its productive chain and the areas of influence.”

Finally, Fenalcarbón sent a message to the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petrounderstanding that the measure was adopted in response to the differences it has had with the Government of Israel and its military intervention in Gaza, the union assured that “it is not about denying a historical conflict, but these types of measures are not part of the solution, and they do cause a detriment to the well-being of the Colombian nation in a reduction in the payment of rent and of course, in the payment of royalties associated with the levels of coal production, which for the departments of La Guajira and Cesar means on average 10% and 6% less production respectively.”
