The Minister of Security and Justice of Chubut, Héctor Iturrioz, referred to the eventual construction of a new Provincial Penitentiary Institute in Esquel, and the creation of the provincial penitentiary service, a long-standing initiative that could materialize in the near future.
Likewise, the minister recalled that there is already a bill that was approved in December 2022, but that it needs to be readjusted. «There is a law that, due to publicly known circumstances, was approved on December 5, 2022, but was left without a number. Let’s see if it needs to be readjusted in these two years and if its text allows the provincial penitentiary service to function as we want it to be,” he said.
Another issue that Iturrioz referred to was the need to build a new Provincial Penitentiary Institute (IPP) in Gaiman, to reduce logistical complications related to the transfer of inmates. “The geographical location would be in Esquel because we have great distances in the province, which complicates transfers,” he explained.
