In a statement, signed by its president Weerasumana Weerasinghe and its secretary Jinendra Saman Peiris, the organization condemned Washington’s decision to keep Cuba on the list of countries suspected of sponsoring terrorism.

He stressed that the Caribbean nation is rather a victim of this scourge.

The Federation of Communist Youth of Sri Lanka added that the US decision to place and then maintain Cuba with that categorization serves as a pretext for the adoption of measures that greatly affect the people of the island, including Cubans residing abroad.

He pointed out that the punitive actions are added to those already existing due to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed against the Caribbean nation for more than 60 years.

The Sri Lankan group also emphasized that the United States government does not have the legitimacy to draw up lists of sponsors of terrorism.

He recalled Washington’s history of invasions, sponsorship and promotion of violent groups and terrorist practices such as the economic war against Cuba, with the aim of overthrowing governments or generating instability in different regions of the planet.

It is unacceptable that an imperialist power with the history of the United States dares to unilaterally and arbitrarily include Cuba in this infamous list, they said.

Likewise, they demanded Cuba’s removal from the list that they described as harmful and the end of the measures that are part of the blockade.

The Federation of Communist Youth of Sri Lanka also reiterated its solidarity with the Government, the youth and the people of Cuba in their fight against imperialism, which it defined as heroic.
