From Córdoba they urged the National Government to do not extend a credit surcharge that directly discriminates against soybean producers.

It is a provision established by the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) during the Government of Alberto Fernández and that Milei’s administration gave it continuity.

The request for its repeal was made by the provincial government, through the Ministry of Bioagroindustry, together with the Liaison Commission of Agricultural Entities of Córdoba. The claim is added to that made by the province of Santa Fe in the same sense.

Joint claim

From Córdoba, the BCRA authorities were asked not to extend Communication “A” 7931 regarding the regulations on “Interest rates in credit operations”, which expires on the 30th of this month.

Specifically, the measure of the banking entity established a minimum rate for financing producers who maintain a soybean stock greater than 5% of their production in the equivalent of 120% of the latest Monetary Policy rate.

This regulation forces producers to pay a higher interest rate, who must pay an interest higher than the established rate, “which is another punishment for production,” claimed the Ministry of Bioagroindustry of Córdoba.

In this sense, Sergio Busso, expressed that it is a measure that threatens the growth of the sector and considered that the decision of repealing it would be “a good sign for the countryside and would offer relief to producers”.

The head of the agricultural portfolio considered that “this measure means a higher financial cost and threatens the growth of the sector.” For Busso, “the Government has the possibility of relieving producers, of removing part of the pressure that the countryside has been under for years.”

For its part, The leaders of the Córdoba Liaison Commission jointly endorsed the claim made by Busso.

“We need competitive rates to increase production. It is a financial trap that punishes production and the decision not to extend it would be positive”, José Luis Careggio, Vanesa Padulles, Patricio Kilmurray and Albina Capellán agreed to affirm,

In turn, Busso insisted on the need for producers to freely access available credit, under the same conditions as other economic activities.

“The countryside needs a gesture. If progress is made with this measure, producers will be incentivized. The next step has to be the removal of all withholdings”, concluded the minister.
