“We will continue to develop mutually beneficial relations with friendly nations in all regions of the world. We will continue to fight against contemporary practices of neocolonialism, strengthening the nascent multipolar order, more just and representative, based on new cooperation formats such as the BRICS and the Eurasian Economic Union, to mention a few,” stressed the Russian ambassador to Cuba, Víctor Koronelli.

The diplomat recalled that, on June 12, 1990, the declaration on the State Sovereignty of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic was adopted, then still part of the USSR.

“Thus a new page was opened in the history of our country. Since the 90s of the last century, we have come a long way. With the election of President Vladimir Putin in 2000, Russia began to reestablish its prestige,” stressed Ambassador Koronelli.

He also recalled that the countries of the collective West never wanted to see a prosperous Russia and wanted it weakened and subordinated to their interests.

“Now Washington and its satellites seek to inflict a strategic defeat on us, to punish us for sovereign and independent politics. We are rightly considered the most sanctioned country in the world: the total number of restrictive measures imposed against Russia amounts to more than 15 thousand,” he said.

Koronelli recalled that among Russia’s friendly countries, Cuba occupies a special place. “It is our main ally and strategic partner in the region. Currently, bilateral relations are booming, we have a rich agenda in almost all spheres of the multifaceted bilateral agenda, the agreements reached will give new impetus to our cooperation, with emphasis on the economic-commercial and investment fields.

Present at the ceremony were Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia; the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Army General Álvaro López Miera; the first vice minister of Foreign Affairs, Gerardo Peñalver, and the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Fernando González, among other personalities.
